THE ESUFALLY FAMILY FOUNDATION
HISTORY
Dhow Foundation (previously known as The Esufally Family Foundation) was set up a few years after the end of Sri Lanka’s 30-year war. Sri Lanka is a small but diverse country with people belonging to different ethnic groups and religions. The conclusion of hostilities in 2009 seemed to mark a new beginning for the nation and an opportunity to bring together the citizens of a country that had witnessed social rifts during the decades of conflict. While the country is witnessing considerable economic development there is still much to do in the areas of education, health and employment opportunities. We at Dhow Foundation believe that every action matters and hope to do our part to contribute towards ensuring not just economic but also social development in our country.
Our Grantmaking
The war in Sri Lanka deepened the divisiveness between different communities and encouraged the concept of the ‘other’. Dhow Foundation is committed to exploring opportunities to encourage a new generation of children to recognise, respect and celebrate our multi-ethnic society. As such we provide funding for programmes that teach the principles of social cohesion through music education to children living in low income settlements around Colombo. We also believe that the future of our country is determined by the education levels of its citizentry. We, therefore, offer scholarships to students who wish to pursue higher education.How We Work
Dhow Foundation was set up by members of the Esufally family. Our roots have always been in the private sector and in administering the foundation we aim to leverage our knowledge of best organizational practices while staying true to the values by which we live our lives.
